Types and features of steel sheet piles

The steel sheet piles currently in production may be broadly divided into three types: lightweight steel sheet piles, steel sheet piles, and steel pipe sheet piles. The steel pile sheet piles are mostly used for permanent structures, while the lightweight steel sheet piles and the steel sheet piles are used for both permanent and temporary structures accorsing to different application needs.

The lightweight steel sheet piles were developed initially in a simple design without joint. However, through a number of improvements since then, joint-incorporated design is now prevailing. Of the lightweight steel sheet piles, the most popularly used is the U-shaped design, which is available in two different cross sections when constructed to form a wall; one, in which the neutral axis of wall becomes in line with the neutral axis of each sheet pile, and the other, in which the neutral axis of wall becomes in line with the joint of sheet pile.

The steel sheet pile are manufactured by hot rolling of steel ingot, thus essentially different from the lightweight steel sheet piles which are manufactured by the cold rolling of steel sheets. The steel sheet piles are available in various designs, U shaped, Z shaped, H shaped and straight, which are used according to different application needs.

Hiện nay cọc ván thép là một sản phẩm được sử dụng rộng rãi có thể chia ra làm 3 loại như sau: cọc ván thép nhẹ, cọc ván thép và cọc ống ván thép. Cọc ván thép hầu hết được sử dụng đối với các công trình vĩnh cữu, trong khi đó cọc ván thép nhẹ và cọc ván thép được sử dụng cho cả công trình vĩnh cửu và công trình tạm theo các ứng dụng cần thiết khác nhau.

Cọc ván thép nhẹ được phát triển ban đầu trong các thiết kế đơn giản không có mối nối. Tuy nhiên, từ nhiều cải tiến hiện nay thiết kế mối nối liên kết đang được sử dụng rộng rãi. Cọc ván thép nhẹ có tiết diện chữ U đang được sử dụng phổ biến. Loại này khi xây dựng thường dùng hai dạng tiết diện: một là tiết diện có trục trung hòa là đường thẳng đi qua trục trung hòa của mỗi cọc ván thép; loại khác có trục trung hòa là đường thẳng đi qua mối nối của hai cọc ván thép.

Cọc ván thép được sản xuất bằng thép cán nóng các thỏi kim loại, do đó về cơ bản khác với cọc ván thép nhẹ vốn được sản xuất bằng phương pháp cán nguội. Cọc ván thép có thể sử dụng được trong nhiều loại thiết kế, cọc tiết diện chữ U, chữ Z, chữ H và loại phẳng có thể sử dụng theo các thiết kế ứng dụng khác nhau.
